Noticed one of our hens had a bad limp this summer. After about a week, she was walking on both legs with seemingly no issues. But clearly there is an issue as she will not jump on anything, roost included, that is more than a foot off the ground. Our nights are in the freezing temps and she is sleeping solo on the ground or on the lowest roost. (I should note that she is high on both the hen and rooster pecking order and is not being shunned by the others.)

I'm assuming she has some leg pain, although it is not obvious. Not sure what I can do to help - or even which leg it is at this point.

Ideas on how I can help her?

Did you check her legs out? Look at the bottom for sores, and check the leg in general for injuries.

A low platform roost can sometimes help, something like a 2x6, 6 up, to get her off the floor. It can depend on your flooring whether she will be okay on the floor during winter. If your bedding is deep enough it should be fine.

I think I'll put in a low roost. Good idea. This week, she has been huddling with our insane Golden Polish who seems to have no allegiances and sleeps all over the coop.

I checked out her feet. No obvious injuries or bumble foot. I have rubber horse mats down on the floor of the coop. I put down just enough cedar to help me clean the floors in the winter. She has some internal leg injury... Poor hen :(
