The easiest part is soaking their feet to get the scab off. Cephalexin is good for deep skin infections like bumblefoot .You can get the 250 mg capsules for fish without a vet visit or prescription.I think maybe I removed the scab too early. I never found a core in it. Maybe I need to do repeated soakings to get the core to move to the surface.
You will need bandages, pads, vet wrap, waterproof tape, antibiotic ointment, iodine, peroxide and antibiotics . 250 mg cephalexin mixed with scrambled eggs twice a dayYou can buy it from Chewy .
It took my hen 6 weeks to completely heal. The "hole" was slow to grow new fleshHi all. I wanted to update the post. I continued soaking every couple days but didn’t try to remove the scab until it softened and came off by itself. I then packed it again with polysporin and rewrapped it. This is two days after. When I removed the bandages I soaked her foot again. Then rubbed more polysporin in and rewrapped again. The skin is closed and looks healed but it is soft and tender. I wanted to protect it for a few more days. I will soak it again on Wednesday but I’m hopeful that she won’t need any more wrapping. She is starting to perk up a little but is still sleepy compared to the others.
Thanks for the reply. I hope my girl perks up again soon. She is being picked on a bit by the others. Nothing too severe just being bumped down the pecking order. She was probably second from the top before. Now she’s probably second from the bottom. It took my hen 6 weeks to completely heal. The "hole" was slow to grow new flesh
I soaked my girls feet 4 weeks before lifting the scab off.I continue soaking her feet an additional 6 weeks and gave her a round of antibiotics .Her feet were bandaged 6 wksThanks for the reply. I’m hoping she doesn’t need the antibiotics but I’ll get some if it’s needed. We have been several weeks at this now. I feel awful that she had such a bad case of it. She didn’t show any signs until she was suddenly unwell. She didn’t limp Until after the first time I tried to remove the scab and kernel. If this ever happens again I think I’ll soak several times before trying to remove the scab. I felt like I did more harm than good.I soaked my girls feet 4 weeks before lifting the scab off.I continue soaking her feet an additional 6 weeks and gave her a round of antibiotics .Her feet were bandaged 6 wks
I lifted the scab off soaking it the first time but didn't bandage it like I should. It came back with a vengeance so I had to lick my calf over. Its been a learning experience.I’m hoping she doesn’t need the antibiotics but I’ll get some if it’s needed.
