Bumble foot losing battle

This is poor Lacy. She is currently in isolation and I fear I may lose her. She seemed to be doing better so I didn’t get the antibiotics from the vet. Today when I got home at lunch I went to check everyone and the run was empty. They were all inside the coop and Lacy was laying down and panting with her eyes closed. I immediately brought her inside and isolated her in a dark room. I cooked her scrambled eggs with crushed egg shells and oregano oil in them. I gave her water with electrolytes. I then drove straight to the vet to get the meds. They wouldn’t see her. But I brought the meds home and some syringes. I have been feeding her the medicine by dropper. A friend also recommended honey water to help perk her up. She is still panting and resting between dropper feedings. She has liquid diarrhea that is white and milky. I’m doing my best to save her. I wish I had gotten the meds sooner. But she seemed to be improving. She was out free ranging all day yesterday and seemed alert and active. She has eaten hulled sunflower seeds and more than her fair share of yesterdays pumpkin. She feels very thin. Our family is so sad to see her so unwell. I hope she pulls through.

Bumblefoot can weaken their immune system and cause other diseases.Your hen is seriously ill and needs immediate care for her new symptoms.
I did my best for her. I got meds from the vet but she didn’t make it. I lost her last night. Some have suggested she may have had a heavy parasite kid and the infection allowed it to overcome her. I’m going to deworm the flock just to be safe.

Awe, I'm SO Sorry! I read through this whole thing for the first time just now because it occurs to me I've had 3 really different experiences around bumble foot and as times change, recommendations change. You truly did the best you could. It's part of the deal with chickens, the longer you have them you're going to experience loss. I can tell she lived her very best chicken life with you. 🦋 ❤️☮️

I'm sorry for your loss and hope the rest are okay. Any signs of white milky diarrhea will need o be treated immediately.

Thank you for your kind words. I did my best for her and loved her completely!

You will need bandages, pads, vet wrap, waterproof tape, antibiotic ointment, iodine, peroxide and antibiotics . 250 mg cephalexin mixed with scrambled eggs twice a day
(1/2 of 500 mg capsule ) Soak the foot 30-45 minutes before applying peroxide, iodine and antibiotic ointment. Change bandage every other day .Must stay clean and dry.
Hello,

How long did you give the Cephalexin? A week or ten days?

Thanks!

The antibiotics were given 10 days following the removal of the scab. She now has a deep scar in the bottom of her foot. She will never forgive me for the black shiny waterproof tape. I used to keep her bandages dry and clean. She looked like she was wearing black patent leather boots.

My hen made it very difficult to bandage her feet (kicking and thrashing and knocking stuff off my lap and into the floor ) She doesn't come near me except to get treats lol. The cure was worse than the disease she bore (her opinion not mine)
