I have a male Pekin named Lazlo, hatched first week in April, and he has a fairly bad case of bumble foot, but the strange thing is that when I checked the bottom of his foot and he has no marks. He did however have a scab in the shape of a slit on the top of his foot. So when I soaked his foot in epsom salt I took that scab( thinking that was the thing to do). I have been soaking his foot once a day for 3 days and cleaning it with chlorhexidine solution 3x day and I don’t see much improvement. I am also giving him Brewers Yeast on his Chick Feed and Nutri-Drench& Probiotics in his water. I have him in a clean cage on unscented wetsie pads, which I change constantly. You see I was away for 2 weeks and someone else was watching my birds. Does anyone have any other suggestions for what I can do for Lazlo?

Maybe something going on besides bumble foot. Could he have sprained, broken twisted his leg? Because his scab was on the top of his foot, I was thinking maybe he caught it on something and injured his foot pulling free. Then it would be a cut and maybe a twisted joint. Epsom salt soak good for both situations.

Very good thought and I didn’t even think of it. But now that you mention it, he is a rather big duck and a little on the not so graceful side(aren’t they all),so that would make a lot of sense. I will keep up with the soaks and I forgot to mention that I am giving him a little (almost 1 ml every 24 hr) of meloxicam for pain. I will watch for improvement over the coming days. Thank you for your response, Hidrainja4.

I’m so sorry. I’m new to this. I didn’t see your other two responses. But yes I will try to attach a picture and aside from just being swollen it does feel a bit warm to the touch as well. But he is eating , drinking, and as you can see in the pic, pooping normally.

Maybe a bug bite that isn't noticeable and having a negative reaction from it? Best of luck and speedy recovery to the poor thing.

That looks incredibly swollen. Can you take him to a vet - he may need antibiotics. A pic of the bottom of his foot would help too.
