Bumble foot

So I didn’t get a photo. I soaked her foot three times today for thirty minutes in Epsom salt. I was unable to find or pull out a plug. I was able to pull off top layer of where the yellow/white discoloration was. I flushed it and wrapped it with vetericyn on foot and gauze inside of wrap. She doesn’t seem to want to move around much. I’m growing concerned because I’ve noticed all of my ducks have not been eating a fraction of their feed that they normally eat. I’ve also ran out of their vitamins that I normally add to their feed and they haven’t had it for about a week and a half and I seemed to have spaced it. I don’t know if that could affect her leg or them because I know they need additional niacin. I have been giving them water with electrolytes and vitamins and also gave them water today with garlic (one clove minced) and rosemary (just a pinch) to see if it could help and boost their immune system. As I went to shut off their light just now I heard one of the ducks coughing which I’ve never heard. I’m on the verge of calling the vet and spending money I don’t have.

For a side note I have been giving them a little bit of star pasta with split peas boiled mixed into their food for the past couple of days and they have been getting veggies from the garden (cherry tomatoes and cucumbers) and I don’t know if maybe they have gotten used to that and have become spoiled and picky? The veggies they eat readily out of my hands. The pellets they now only show interest if I drop it out of my hands infront of them.

It’s always my smallest of the ducklings that has problems. My first batch of three khakis, my smallest one had leg problems, to the point that I thought he was going to die, took him to the vet, they suggested surgery, X-rays or putting him down. I altered his diet and today he is completely fine and ended up being the biggest. (I lost my other two to a predator). He was so depressed I got three Cayugas. Of this three, my leia is the smallest. She has terrible angel wing, which I thought would settle because I did the same thing I did with my other duck and hers cleared up with the diet change. It’s like I can’t win. I was going to wrap her wings yesterday morning only to discover her not putting any pressure on her leg. I’m sitting here soaking her foot again. Idk if I should look into antibiotics or what. Also, ducks have eaten more and no more signs of coughing.

Sometimes dusty Feed or just dusty conditions can cause coughing. Glad to hear you haven’t heard it again and they are eating more. If its been real hot that may cause them not to have a big appetite. How’s her foot look today?

Honestly the foot doesn’t look swollen at all. Just in that spot. She seems to be putting it down and hobbling around better. But prefers to lay for the most part. I let her walk in the yard for a little bit because she gets so stressed being separated from the others. I’ll take a picture tonight when I resoak it. I caved and soaked it in the Epsom salt, then sprayed it with the vertericyn, then applied a little of a topical antibiotic called mupirocin that I use for my son’s skin because he is prone to staff infections and it’s what we would prescribe to our patients who had skin cancer removal surgeries to protect them against staff. Tomorrow after I get paid I’m gonna see if I can find some of that Tricide Neo at the fish store, and try soaking it in that as I’ve read a lot of positive reviews. I just don’t feel comfortable cutting into her foot, if I can take care of this non surgically I’d prefer to do that. I bought sterile scalpels today just incase it gets worse. The ducks are just making me nervous because their appetite for their pelleted food is next to none. But they’ll readily steal treats from the garden. We shall see.

Poop in my basement that I’m gonna have to clean but they seem to make her less stressed. It’s been raining cats and dogs in Rhode Island.

Omg @Miss Lydia I didn’t know raw beans was a No no! I mixed raw split peas into their feed a couple days ago when all of this started before I started boiling them first! Could that be what caused their lack of appetite?? The rest are acting fine, minus the noticeable difference in interest of their food.

If you boiled them first it should be fine the feed I use has peas in it. If your wanting them to ear more of their feed then cut back on the other things just like most humans and animals of course we’d like to have yummy treats but we need food with balanced nutrients most of all. If you can get a new pic of her foot tomorrow let’s see what it looks like. That’s sweet of you to let her have company. Too.

@Miss Lydia this is what it looks like this morning after a ten minute soak. I Applied antibiotic as well but the self adhering wrAp isn’t sticking so I’m gonna have to buy some more today. She’s in the pen in a clean crate with food and water with the others outside of the crate. She was standing this morning when I went downstairs.

It’s swollen but not sure its bumble how does it feel is it hard like a core or soft?
