Bumble foot

Hoooo boy. Vet says the leg is paralyzed bc something in her kidney area is pressing down on the sciatic nerve and restricting function. The vet gave us two options. She said we can spend 600 dollars to hospitalize her overnight and the get checked out by a specialist who will tell us what’s wrong, and then run more diagnostics and then more diagnostics and it could total up to thousands of dollars just to find out she’s gonna die. Or we could euthanize her right now. We chose the third option and got up and left. She’s so healthy, so alert and so not in pain that I really think it would be a crime to euthanize her right now, so instead we’re waiting until she begins to deteriorate to let her go, because she might not ever deteriorate, and just stay paralyzed and not get worse. Bottom line it’s not a fracture but we don’t know what’s wrong and we don’t really have the funds to figure it out. There’s a really high chance we’re just going to be told there’s nothing we can do and I’d rather let her have time with her sisters before she dies. Sad day but I’m happy we went and know that it’s not a fracture. Hope she improves but unlikely. She’s very loved here and I want to keep it that way

I'm sorry to hear about your hen.

Hard to know what's pressing on the nerve unless you lose her and a necropsy is performed.

You can try placing her in a sling to keep her more upright and off the joints so she doesn't develop sores. Of course she would need to be monitored while in the sling and taken out of it periodically throughout the day too.

There are a lot of threads with people using slings and some videos on youtube as well. Something to consider.
