Bumble foot

My chick has bumble foot and we tried surgery but not very effective. What should we do

Hi! You could soak her foot in Epsom salt for 30 minutes, it should help. We had a duck and chicken with bumblefoot. Before giving them surgery we soaked their feet in Epsom salt for 30 minutes. Doing that softens their feet for surgery.

One of my EEs gets bumblefoot often. I think its due to her size. What has always worked best was soaking it in epsom salt for as long as she'll let me then applying neospiron and wrapping it. After a few days it softens and comes out easier.

If you have an old plastic storage tote, cut a hole in the lid (just big enough for them to stick their noggin through), pour a little water & the salts in.. just enough to get the foot submerged & that way they can stick their noggin through the lid!

I’ve found surgery can make it worse unless you can keep the chicken in a sterile environment. The epsom salt soak is great and then wrap with ichthamel salve. Usually after about 5 days of treatment the bumble is almost gone, depending on the severity

That's a smart idea but he can't stand on that foot!

Photos would help. You said it's a chick, not common to see bumblefoot in chicks, so how sure are you on the diagnosis?

Could you use iodine instead of ichthamel? And can you just bathe the foot in strong salt water?
