My duck Blue was limping today. She hadn’t been yesterday. Her right heel was swollen and had that black scab on it. Am guessing bumble and am starting treatment

Didn’t see a splinter. We did epsom salt and drawing salve. Looks like she might have a little one forming on her toe but the scab on her heel was off to the side. Usually it’s been in the middle when I’ve had bumble to deal with. It just looked a little different but figured the treatment would be good regardless

So after the first epsom salt bath and a night of it wrapped with prid drawing salve on it, the scab came right off and a ton of blackish blood came out this morning. Drained it. Didn’t see a kernel come out or see an abscess. It did look like there was a cut under the scab though.

Wrapped it again this morning with more prid. Tonight checked it before her epsom salt bath and it was scabbing again. There was some blood but it was normal red.

Looks like she has a cut on her foot on her heel. Going to keep the treatments up and let her heal before setting her back outside.

Wound up being bumble. After the original scab came off we kept using prid and after a day you could see something bulging. A new scab formed quickly and after another couple epsom soaks tit lifted off and the kernel came right out. Foot healing up, swelling almost completely gone after just a few days. This was the first time using prid drawing salve. Will definitely keep it in the duck first aid kit from now on

So this morning her foot was good. Hardly a healing scab. Swelling was practically gone

Had to make a decision though.wanted to keep her in another day or so… but Blue hates being inside away from the flock. My other indoor duck, sparkles, who was lame in one leg. And mostly lame in the other, passed away a few days ago. And, while they weren’t in the same pen, they could see each other from across the room. So now blue was lonely.

She had stopped eating and drinking since sparkles passed. And her blue bill was losing some color and her feathers falling out. And for the past two days, she just laid with her legs tucked under her

Made the decision to move her outside and just keep an eye on her foot.

Picked her up and her leg was warm. As I walked around and it got air it became more normal temp though so am hoping it’s just cause she has been laying on it all night. It hasn’t been warm to the touch prior

She was so excited. She ran to the other ducks. Ate, drank. But also limped severely. In fact that leg was bowed inward. I’m going to check on her through the day. But is that common after bumble? I have treated it a few times and never had them limp when I put them back out. Niacin deficiency from not eating for a few days maybe?

Tried to get a pic or video but blue is also camera shy and just laid down when I took my phone out

I'm so sorry you lost Sparkles. I'm sure that was heartbreaking.
Did you wrap her foot so no bacteria can get in? I would think for a pretty good case of bumble after getting all the gunk out there could still be pain and soreness which would cause limping. Just keep checking on her through the day and make sure nothing else is going on.
Go ahead and give her some extra niacin it won't hurt and can help strengthen her legs.
Won't hurt for her to have extra niacin she may need it for a while. If you use B complex that will give her the niacin and also help stimulate her appetite.
