Bumblefoot and roosts

It is going to rain here for the next few days, they are in a covered run but it doesn't get that damp feeling to it when there is moisture in the air

thanks for this!

This is all new to me, I was able to find a LOT on here when searching to begin with so hopefully not too many questions.

I can try and wrap and see what she does :)
Just make sure when/if you wrap it, it's not to tight, you'll do just fine ;)

As far as bumblefoot causes🤷‍♀️. Out of our first group of girls, a couple had bumblefoot more than once and some never had it at all. Same roost, same food, all traveled in a pack so same ground covered and the biggest girls were the ones who didn't get it. None of our second or third groups have issues with bumblefoot and only one of the original girls has had it in the past 8 months.

I have 2x3s on flats and 2x4s on edge (10' span, needed the strength). Bubblefoot infections have been few, and seem more to relate to the height of the roosts and the material they jump down into than the roost itself. At least, in my limited experience. No initial injury, no place for staph to colonize...

My tallest roost is 27" off the ground, and I'm fond of deep litter - actually, I need to rake more leaves and add to the litter depth. Back later!

I'm not sure how climate plays into all of it, my winters can get pretty cold, but my summers are quite toasty, lol...I do have the edges of mine rounded a bit because my brahma started to get a little sore on her keel bone, but no more problems since (that was a year or so ago). I know lots of members on here use tree saplings, limbs etc. so maybe it's just a preference thing. I've always been under the assumption that bumblefoot is caused by hard landings and rough ground...Let's see what some others have to say.
@3KillerBs @aart

I don't know much about bumblefoot -- I've never had it in my flock. But I use natural "branch" perches in large part because pine saplings and scrub oaks are weeds that have to be cut anyway while 2x4s have to be purchased.
