Hi everyone. I’m looking for any special tips/ tricks to wrapping the foot of a Cochin with Bumblefoot. We’ve had Bumblefoot enough times around here over the 10+ yrs I’ve been keeping chickens, but only once before in one of the Cochins. At that time, the foot wrap seemed to really irritate the feather shafts, and one became really swollen and inflamed. It ended up being ok because we immediately removed the wrap as the open wound had healed by that point and so it worked out, so we (she) was fortunate. We’ve got the soak/ “surgery”/ wrap process down at this point, we could do it with our eyes closed with a regular chicken foot. But, not so with the Cochin. I’m just looking for any pointers that anyone may have to keep the irritation to feathers to a minimum. Thanks in advance.

Was the dressing up too high or too tight? The video below is pretty good for wrapping a foot with bumblefoot:
It may have been too tight although we had tried to prevent that. As I said above, with a normal chicken foot as seen in this video, that’s easy, we are pros at this point. I do the soaking & surgery, then we switch duties and I hold, he wraps the foot. It’s the cochin’s foot feathers that had presented a problem last time that I want to avoid. Thank you for such a quick response! ❤️🐓🤝
