Bumblefoot help needed.

I have a Pekin who got bumblefoot. I have been soaking her feet in epsom salt and iodine for the past week. Then spraying her foot with vetericyn plus, and putting neosporin on her wound and wrapping it. I just got the scab off, but I don't see any thing inside. Do I need to cut it open or will the area shrink over time if I keep treating it?

I don't see a pus plug from where I sit. Do you? What I see is callous material that has grown over an irritation. But I don't often do well interpreting two dimensional photos on a computer screen.

As long as the wound has no pus in it, continuing your treatment as you've been doing should help the wound to heal.

I agree, that you should continue on doing the treatment you have been doing so far.

Could you post a few pictures of you're setup area? I notice the plantar surfaces of her feet are fairly flattened, which isn't uncommon with heavyweight breeds like Pekins, but keeping them on hard/unforgiving grounds can exacerbate the problem, and cause conditions like you're seeing.

Looks like there could be some swelling, and redness developing in her upper-middle digit toe. Keep an eye on that.

I haven't seen any pus come out of her. How can I tell if it calloused material vs still infected. If it is calloused material, will it go away overtime or is that something she may have for the rest of her life.

I am overly worried because I have second duck with much more serious bumblefoot, where she hobbles now. I took her into the vet for surgery, but her wound had more pus come out of it and is still rather infected looking. My current vet sees a lot of different animals, but is not very good, so I scheduled with a different vet that I will see next week. I am hoping I can help one duck and get more knowledge before seeing a vet. There are no avian vets anywhere near by.

She free ranges out in grass most of the day and at night she is in the coop covered in straw. Right now she is separated from the flock, so she won't jump in water and get her bandages wet. I can get some more photos when I replace her bandages.

Here are some more photos of her foot. She has a spot on each foot. I believe she stepped on something sharp. We found a chunk of old metal in the yard from a previous owner. Since then we have ran a magnet over the area a few times.

Keep on applying the ointment to her foot, and bandaging, and if the swelling doesn't subside, she may need an antibiotic, and possibly a NSAID to reduce the swelling, and kill out infection if present.

I'm not sure. Give it a week or so, and if doesn't shrink down that much, consider starting her on an antibiotic. Oftentimes it's hard to treat in heavyweights, so you need to be a bit more "dramatic" about your treatment.

I went ahead and started treating her with baytril and ibuprofen. I saw improvement in one foot but not as much in the other. I am thinking about trying another antibiotic. Do you have any other suggestions?
