1) What type of bird , age and weight. EE Pullet-5 months old on 7/23. She is 4 lbs.
2) What is the behavior, exactly. Noticed she was walking funny this evening and her comb is pale.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? Comb has been pale for about 6-7 days, thought it may be due to the heat.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? NO
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. She has a dark scab on the bottoms of both feet with some swelling.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.N/A
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. Eating down and drinking is up due to heatwave. I feed Game grower supplemented aith Oyster shell and BOSS & Meal worms for treats. I just today added Electrolytes/Vitamins to the water due to the heat.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. Normal
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? None yet
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? Will be treating myself.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use. Shares a 12x17 coop with 15 other LF. Free range all day, daily.
I currently have Pipsqueak in the house seperated from the flock, in an XL dog crate.
I plan to do the surgery in the morning as I have to pick up a couple of things to be able to complete it. Does Pip need an antibiotic after the treatment? If so what kind etc... I worked in a Cattle Feedlot on a Vet crew doctoring cattle, I am NOT squimish and understand meds and such.
Please help the Pippy girl, she is my fav and I absoloutly adore her!
