Please answer soon! He's a really sweet little rooster and I'd hate to lose him! Thanks in advance!
1) What type of bird, age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
He's a mixed breed, about 1 1/2 years old, and he is a little thinner than the other chickens.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
He was limping when I went to check on him, so I picked him up and saw a black spot that kind of looks like dried mud.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
I just noticed it today.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No.
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
He has been living up by my house instead of in the chicken coop after being bullied by some of the other roosters (who will soon be given away!)
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
He has been eating and drinking, and other than scraps from the house, he's been eating exactly the same thing as the rest of my flock.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
I haven't checked.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Nothing.
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I'd like to treat him myself.
11) Describe the housing/bedding in use.
I use pine shavings, but as I said he's been sleeping next to my house until I can give away the bully roosters.
12)If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
(Ignore the dirt under his finger nails!)
