Bumblefoot, not getting better

Hey guys. Some of you have probably seen me speak of my duck Daisy. Well, she's had bumblefoot for some time now. I treated it (thanks to ALL the help I received on here -- thanks so much guys!) but I'm not sure if I actually got rid of it or if it just came back.

I took her to the vet almost a month ago. He confirmed it was bumblefoot and started her on two different types of medicines. I will check the names and post them in a little while when I can get a chance to. She didn't have any improvement, so when I took her back he cut into her foot/leg and told me to NOT cover it with anything and to let it drain. They also "forgot" to tell me to soak her foot in diluted betadine, until I called a few days later and they mentioned it then. But when I began soaking her, I believe the wound was closed up.

Her next appointment is tomorrow and I believe they're going to want to do surgery and use anesthesia. I am absolutely terrified. The vet told me that ducks don't do very well under anesthesia, so I was really hoping it wouldn't come to this.

I am DESPERATE. This is not a "duck" to me, this is one of my favorite pets. Does anyone have any experience similar to this? Is there any advice you could give? I will upload pictures of her foot/leg as of two days ago.

Thank you so much.

Just wanted to add what medicine the vet put Daisy on.

The vet prescribed Baytril (0.4mls twice a day for 14 days) and Metacam Oral (1lm a day for 3 days). She went through this process two separate times.

Thanks so much @Miss Lydia

I've been blessed by being able to afford her treatment, and by having an understanding vet. I definitely have my money problems! I live in a very small little town, the biggest store we have is a family dollar (which is fairly new), so I was VERY shocked to learn of an avian vet only 15-20 minutes from me. His prices are on the lower end as well.

Thank you for the kind words, and thank you for thinking about Daisy. :) I'll post an update later today.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to post an update on Daisy's visit to the vet today.

The doctor pulled the scab off her foot (from the previous incision) and that's really all that happened today. Didn't even charge me anything (again, I've definitely been blessed). However, she is scheduled for surgery Friday morning (if I decide to go through with it).

They believe the infection is in her joint(s), so they want to go in and clean it out. They did mention other possibilities, such as cancer or some other type of infection, but they are leaning towards bumblefoot.

The vet seems like he knows what he's doing, so I'm not worried about that, but I am worried about Daisy going under. I don't think I have any option besides going through with the surgery though. If she doesn't have it, I don't see her getting better at this point.

What would you all do?

If you can afford it and it is in the joint surgery most likely is only option. If it spreads into the blood stream she will most likely die. Staff isn't something to mess around with. I know your worried but sounds like your vet knows his business.

Did anything come out when he pulled off the scab or did he pull anything out?
