Hey all,
(Graphic content attached)

I’ve got a 5 year old rooster that’s been dealing with a foot issue for about 1 month now. We took him in to the garage and warmth after realizing him being lame on his left side.we have been soaking his foot in epsom salt and warm water for two weeks now - originally thought it was frost bite because we had a brutal winter. We caved and took him to the vet today, there is only one in our area. She says that he has bumble foot and the solution was removing the infected tissue and keeping him on antibiotics for a month. Unfortunately due to the expenses being $1400 we just couldn’t do it. The antibx even $400. His toes are now falling off which is what we knew would happen. This is a picture of his foot after getting home from the vet. Are there any at home alternatives to help me save him? It would be so sad having to let him go for this. Help us save our boy ☹️

That looks like bumblefoot AND frostbite, to me. Poor guy!

You can get antibiotics online. Search for "baytril no prescription." You can probably treat like you would any bumblefoot infection (soak, surgery, antibiotic ointment, wrapping), but that looks pretty far gone. He must be in terrible pain....

I see no bumblefoot. It's a serious case of frostbite where the tissue of his three front toes have been destroyed and his body is walling off the dead tissue, cutting off oxygen so they are turning black and eventually all three will fall off. That leaves him with a "club" foot but he will still be able to walk and run.

He will not be able to roost, so he'll need to sleep on the ground or use a special perch that's just a few inches tall.

Antibiotics are usually not necessary in cases such as this where the chicken's body is jettisoning the dead body parts before they can decay and spread bacteria systemically.

Yes he definitely is a trooper you would never even guess he’s in pain he hides it well. The vet gave him pain meds to help him for a day. Thank you for this advice, I tried searching for Baytril no prescription but all the sites it led me to are requesting prescription :-( Do you know of a specific site? I will keep searching.

Definitely has some late-term frostbite going on. I agree that it looks like bumblefoot as well. I believe I also see some SLM on top of all that.

You can get Baytril here:
https://allbirdproducts.com/products/baytril-10

And here:

Also here (where I order from)
