My 11 month old RIR has a small black scab on each foot. So far, I have only put Betadine liquid on it. I have read up on how to cut it out and pack it with a topical antibiotic cream such as Neosporin, but don't have any. So, the questions:
1) How do I decide it isn't going to clear up and I need to cut it out? Her feet aren't swollen and she isn't limping, though she walks and runs slower than the others (and has done so since she broke her toe with a hard jump onto rock 3-4 months back). I checked her feet because the last 3 nights she hasn't gone up to the roost, but has slept in the sugar cane mulch on the floor of the coop. She is eating and drinking well and continues to lay.
2) Where can I buy Neosporin cream or similar? Maybe online? I am in Australia so have also asked this question on an Aussie poultry forum.
3) In the meantime, I have Triple C antibiotic powder. Should I give this to her?
Finally, is there anything else I can try? I don't want her to suffer, but my husband and I aren't looking forward to our first chicken surgery either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
