Hi everyone!

So, I had planned to remove Brownie's (my rooster) bumblefoot from both feet yesterday, but it was too hard even after half an hour of soaking in warm water!

I tried to pluck it away using a pair of tweezers (I've done this before as well) but the bumblefoot scab was very firm and ultimately they did not come off. I was only able to remove pieces of the scab and then after almost an hour was forced to put Neosporin ointment on it and wrap it up.

I do not want to use a scalpel as I am not a medical person and there are no avian vets in my area and I won't know what to do if something went wrong.

I'm thinking that I'll soak his foot for 3 days (half an hour each daily) and then try the removal again.

What do you all think? Is there anything else I can do to soften his bumblefoot? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

For difficult ones I apply decolorized iodine (any pharmacy in the first aid section will have, small bottle, very different from betadine) and wrap the foot over night. That helps soften it up quite a bit. If it's really stubborn you may have to repeat, but I often do it this way if I don't really have time to soak, or if soaking doesn't soften it up well.

You could try magnesium sulfate which is a drawing paste. Layer it on and wrap over it for a day and then reinspect. It may take a couple of applications to get it to open up the scab and start drawing out the infection.

I'll definitely ask around in my local pharmacies and share what I find. Thank you! :)

I understand. I'll try to make it at home. Any idea about the ratio? The net has different ratios mentioned so I'm confused.
Also, thank you! :)

I don't know the ratio, I just bought a little tub off Amazon! It was quite cheap. And not even for the chickens, my son had a splinter that he wouldn't let me dig out and it was infected. It worked a treat drawing out the pus and the splinter, so i thought it might also work with stubborn bumbles.
