No, pockets don't close up. See if you can get another photo of the foot tomorrow or the next day, dry with no ointment or anything on it, so I can get a better look at the area where it was swollen.Oh wow so if it wasn't bumblefoot that hole where I pulled out that thing will it ever close up ?
Agreed.I don't think that's bumblefoot. I think she had an impacted toe pocket. If that's the case, that's something you want to empty out every once in a while but otherwise needs no special treatment.
I don't know what the OP saw, there was not photo, but for it to just pop out like that and the way the material looks, it looks like a poop/mud ball that was impacting the toe pocket.I have never heard of an impacted toe pocket. That's a new one for me.
Do you have info for this?

when there is an impacted toe pocket is there usually a scab? Because OP said there was a scab. That is what made me think Bumble.
It's not a scab but can resemble one, especially if it's been in there a long time, which may have been the case here since the pocket was noticeably swollen from above. Dirt and mud and poop collect and compact down into a hard ball in the pocket, which can certainly resemble something like bumblefoot, but it's the specific location that's most telling.I have never heard of an impacted toe pocket. That's a new one for me.

Thats so strange I've had chickens since 2009 and have never seen anything like this, have had bumble on some of my hens but not impacted toe thank goodness Dealing with bumble is enough.I don't know what the OP saw, there was not photo, but for it to just pop out like that and the way the material looks, it looks like a poop/mud ball that was impacting the toe pocket.
Possibly the OP thought it was a scab when they looked at the bottom of the foot?
Either way, it looks like they were able to remove the material easily which is a good thing.
Here's another thread with more poop ball feet (photos on both pages)

Ok here's the update I took off the bandage last night and didn't think I had to put another one on. It totally looks like it was a impacted pocket so that's a relief. I'm watching her swollen we'd there though
