Bumblefoot without scab?

Sometimes there's more than one lump of infection, sometimes I find them between the toes. I think you're doing the right thing with the antibiotics. I will have to check the dosage for myself because I've always given 0.5 ml.

Soak the foot several times a day. Sometimes what I do is put a wet dressing with Epsom salt water, and leave it on overnight. Then a dry dressing during the day. I guess you are putting ointment on it as well?

I have been using Vetericyn spray as it kills bacteria. Mostly because I had cut into her foot to try and cut out the infection.

Tillie's foot is still swollen. She is nearing the end of her course of penicillin. I'm really worried and anxious for her!

The side of her foot was not red and swollen on Sunday.

I have been battling Bumblefoot on one of my hens for 2-3 months now. I've done surgery but can't get the kernel out. Lots of puss, but I feel several hard things in there. I'm presuming they're kernels. I can see at least one. Anyway, finally called the veterinarian that I bought her from over a year ago. He said that the success rate for dealing with Bumblefoot is not very high. So, I asked him if that means she's going to die from the staph infection. He said no. Many chickens with Bumblefoot just go about their lives with it. But he said that sometimes this works: try giving her an injection directly into her foot with .5cc of Procaine Penicillin G. So, that is what I did today. We'll see how it goes.

Maura, it didn't reall do anything that I could tell. Except kill the tissue around the scab area. So, After reading more, and more, and more, I started giving her IM pen G injections in her breast and soaking nd squeezing. Yesterday was her last of 5 injections. So, pretty much the same. I don't know what to do...

My Molly bird has bumblefoot. I've been searching the web trying to find out what do do about it (aside from digging with a scaple). There's been more than one post that praises this new type do treatment for bumblefoot. It's called Tricide Neo and was originally developed to treat ulcerations on the skin of Koi fish. I've also seen good comments about using Grapefruit Seed Extract. A lady at the health food store also said Colloidal Silver may help as it is a very good natural antibiotic. I'll be treating my hen tomorrow. Will keep you posted on her progress (I first noticed her limp sometime in June of this year. I feel bad about not taking care of this sooner but I didn't know what it was, no vet access and no money. Anyhow, I did hv enough$$ to get the GSE, Epsom Salts, Colloidial Silver, some aspirn for her pain as well as Rescue Remedy which will help calm her. The people that came out about the Tricide Neo were very possitive about the Tricide Neo and said it only took a couple of treatments and they didn't need to separate them from the other chickens. I ordered my from Koi Farms - free shipping thank goodness - the stuff is expensive!

I soaked her foot over and over...didn't seem to help much. I finally operated on it - pulled out a bunch of - I guess they're called kernels but they looked like nails. The first one in the middle of her poor foot was this curved, long knife looking like thing. I'm so worried about her now, that I over did it. It was awful, the stress of not really knowing what I was doing was really strong. Took about 2 hrs. When it was done, I just broke down and cried. I'm still crying, not getting much sleep. I have her isolated in her coop and will be cleaning her foot with Epsom salts, Betadyne and Neosporin and wrap it with gauze, vet tape and electrical tape. My poor bird! This bumblefoot problem is really awful. She has it on her other foot as well, but I'm done with thinking that by watching all these videos and getting info on so many sites, that I think I know what I'm doing. I don't, every case is different and they all don't go so smooth as they do on the internet vids. Bird lovers beware... you watch these videos and think you can do what they do, you can't, you are only beginning to know what the hell you're doing to your poor bird and if something goes wrong, you won't know what to do except your bird may die. Don't forget about the pain you're putting her through- and that's another thing - they say chickens don't react to pain like you'd expect, well, they do! They pull away from the knife and it DOES HURT THEM. If I had the chance to take it back, I would and never would have attempted cutting into my poor Molly's foot. This is NOT an easy thing to do, don't think you know just because you watch these surgery vids, you know nothing and you do not know what to do except take the bird to the vet and let them handle this. Now, if I could only find a good vet that knows how to deal with the problem in chickens.... only vets around here are feline and canine and really know nothing about chickens. I know nothing about chickens except how stupid I am to think I could do this operation on my poor bird.

If you can purchase some VetWrap as soon as you can and use that instead of electrical tape. Much more "give" to it for your girl's comfort.
