I soaked her foot over and over...didn't seem to help much. I finally operated on it - pulled out a bunch of - I guess they're called kernels but they looked like nails. The first one in the middle of her poor foot was this curved, long knife looking like thing. I'm so worried about her now, that I over did it. It was awful, the stress of not really knowing what I was doing was really strong. Took about 2 hrs. When it was done, I just broke down and cried. I'm still crying, not getting much sleep. I have her isolated in her coop and will be cleaning her foot with Epsom salts, Betadyne and Neosporin and wrap it with gauze, vet tape and electrical tape. My poor bird! This bumblefoot problem is really awful. She has it on her other foot as well, but I'm done with thinking that by watching all these videos and getting info on so many sites, that I think I know what I'm doing. I don't, every case is different and they all don't go so smooth as they do on the internet vids. Bird lovers beware... you watch these videos and think you can do what they do, you can't, you are only beginning to know what the hell you're doing to your poor bird and if something goes wrong, you won't know what to do except your bird may die. Don't forget about the pain you're putting her through- and that's another thing - they say chickens don't react to pain like you'd expect, well, they do! They pull away from the knife and it DOES HURT THEM. If I had the chance to take it back, I would and never would have attempted cutting into my poor Molly's foot. This is NOT an easy thing to do, don't think you know just because you watch these surgery vids, you know nothing and you do not know what to do except take the bird to the vet and let them handle this. Now, if I could only find a good vet that knows how to deal with the problem in chickens.... only vets around here are feline and canine and really know nothing about chickens. I know nothing about chickens except how stupid I am to think I could do this operation on my poor bird.
