Hi BYC,

My Indian Runner, Freya, has a cut on her foot. I just noticed this yesterday, but I’ve been cleaning it with Vetericyn and treating it with antibiotic ointment. Today I used Silver Sulfadiazine as well and put a neoprene boot on her for the night. These look like little bumbles, but there is no “hardness” or “core” feeling to them, and they aren’t swollen. Are these pressure marks or calluses? Her feet have always been an interesting mix of colors, so it is very difficult for me to know what I’m looking at sometimes.

They are almost entirely in soft grass and fluffy fine pine shavings in their house at night, but I know that they do have a way of finding things to injure themselves on though. Should I be doing anything else? I would soak her, but it doesn’t feel like there is anything to work out of those two areas. They feel flat.

Thank you guys ❤️

They are def bumble just not full blown yet which is good. treat just like you are except soak too. You want to soften the scabs so you can pull them off in case there is infection in there. Or try a drawing salve and see how that works.
Thank you, I was thinking it was probably bumble by the appearance, they just feel so flat and not like I could pull anything off scab wise. I will soak her later today when I can find some help to get her boot back on. I think I still have some Prid as well. Does that work okay?

Others say it does. It looks like there are scabs so probably with some good days of soaking you should be able to get them off. You may not need to pull off any scabs try soaking and using Prid along with using the boots and see what happens.

Some of my ducks had these kinds of minor bumbles on their feet in the spring when there wasn’t a lot of greenies to cushion their feet. One of the five at that time had to be treated for bumble, the rest cleared up on their own.

If they aren’t swollen and she doesn’t seem bothered by them I would take a wait and see approach. Monitor her closely for signs of it worsening and intervene if needed. Ducks get their feet into all kinds of nasty stuff even when kept confined. I don’t personally want open wounds if can be helped.

She’s walking fine and seems unbothered, so I’m just kind of treating it at night and letting her do her thing during the day as of right now. I’m headed out right now to see how she’s doing though!
