I have 3 ducks, and they all just developed bumblefoot. I caught it very very early and it’s being treated successfully, however to prevent this from happening again, I’m am unsure as to how they got it in the first place. They are not walking on hard surfaces, nor hay or rocks. Their room is constantly sanitized, so they aren’t sitting or standing in filth, and they do not have any scrapes, cuts, abrasions or anything of the sort on their feet. They have baths all the time and are clean. How else can a duck develop bumblefoot? Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

Some common causes of bumblefoot are
Walking on wire
Walking on anything sharp thorns/wire/rough bedding/splintery wood
Jumping from high places
Does your pool have sharp edges they’re stepping on?
Make sure that they have soft comfy bedding, all sharp things such as thorns or wire (especially old rusty wire), are removed from their pen/where they are around a lot.
Glad you were able to clear it up and I hope you have no more issues with it in the future! And if you need help deciding if their pen is safe, feel free to post pictures!

Is it at all possible that they get this from a vitamin deficiency like guinea pigs?
