Bumblefoot

What I do is soak my ducks foot in warm water with epsom salts twice a day - for about 15 minutes. My vet said you could add betadine or colorless iodine to the water every few days. You want to loosen the scab because it has to come off. I then apply neosporin. Once you can start to pry the scab off you will need to get the infection out from under there. At that point you'll need to spray it with something like veterercyn or clean it with iodine. Pack the area with neosporin (not the pain-free type). and wrap it really well to keep infection out and keep it dry. Because her scab is so huge, you probably need to contain her in a small area inside with you, or outside in something like a wire dog crate where she can still see the other ducks, and that you keep super clean. Can she even walk with that? I'm so sorry you don't have a better vet. Maybe you can say where you live and someone might know of another vet nearby. Did you go to an avian vet?

Is the leg swollen? That looks very bad, and I wouldn't be surprised if the infection is spreading to the upper parts of her leg.
No swelling or redness around the area at all, thats what i dont understand. Does that mean the abtibiotics he had did work?

Thank you so much! Im kent england, i have just booked in to a vets called Burnham tomorrow, im hoping they can help !

So glad - this seems quite a case and I hope you find a vet that can help you take care of it properly. You might ask if they will give you any pain meds for your duck - this looks like it would hurt a lot.
The vet today had given me 28 days antibiotics and said we could do xrays

Do you know if these antibiptics could work? If i do the epsom salts vaths at home and try and loosen the scab? I dont want to wait for thr rnd of antibiotics to then do xrat if it could make it worse waiting?

Sorry so many typos there

When my Runner has bumble she was on antibiotics for 7 days when I opened it to get the bumble out then she finished the rest. I’d keep soaking and wait at least 5 days before trying to peel off the scab. Hopefully by then it will be ready.

Could it get any worse if i wait until the end of antibiotics? Will i need to try and dig anything out once ive got the scab off? Was your runners foot red and swollen?
