i have a hen with bumble foot, she’s been limping for the past two weeks i’ve been trying to help her by bathing her foot in warm epsom water and pop the infection. i haven’t managed to make any progress on removing it no matter how long i try. however, it has seemed to alleviate some pain and keep the infection at a small size, as well as hell her limp. am i doing anything wrong? should i administer antibiotics or call a vet?

Pictures would be helpful. Some small shallow lesions may resolve with regular soaks and topical treatments. Larger deeper ones need to be cleaned out before they will heal. Sometimes applying decolorized iodine (not the same as betadine-most first aid sections have it) and wrapping the foot overnight helps soften it up for removal better than soaking in epsom salts.

sorry everyone for the late reply, but I came back from work and tinkered with her foot a bit more. i was able to have the scab removed and wrapper. she’s doing much better now, and i thank everyone for their participation.
