Is this Bumblefoot? My friend just sent me this picture of her chicken's feet asking for my help. At first I thought it was Bumblefoot, but then she sent the picture and now I'm unsure. I've treated Bumblefoot before, but never seen it look like this.

It looks early and there is some coming on the toes. What type of bedding are they on, and has it been damp or muddy. I would suggest soaking the feet in warm Epsom salts for a few days. You may also apply a dressing of iodine and sugar for a few days. Hopefully that will prevent the skin from breaking down more.

They are on shavings at the moment. I told my friend to soak her feet. She's got 3 of her girls sick with it and already called the vet. Vet is on vacation, so I'll help her temporarily treat. I didn't know about the sugar. I'll pass the info on. I'll tell her to switch bedding. Do you have any suggestions on a better bedding?

Those six nearly symmetrical dots are not from bumblefoot. It appears to be a puncture wound from some sort of hardware the chicken may have jumped onto. Or a burn, even an electrical burn. Your friend needs to hunt down the hardware or rough gravel or pavers in their run or yard or coop that matches that wound and rectify it.

The wound itself appears superficial at this point, but it could become infected. I would soak it, and keep it treated with Vetericyn or a wound ointment.

Okay, here's an update. The vet said it was not bumblefoot. She said that it was likely due to the bedding. Idk how my friend's shavings could have done that, but I'm guessing they got wet or something. She also said that the dots weren't symmetrical on her other 2 chickens.
