Bumblefoot?

Pics
Because we catch the bumble when its small, dark & flat w/no swelling we treat right away w/just warm Epsom soaks & triple antibiotic pads wrapped w/ Vetwrap its so easy. But letting a bumble get to the swelling/pus stage was never an issue w/us.

The first case of a hen's bumble must've been bad for our vet to do surgery but the 2nd hen must not have been bad as the vet sent us home w/instructions to treat it ourselves. Saves a lot of $$ to learn how to catch bumble early to make treatment easier.

Our vet grew up w/chickens & is comfortable when we bring in our birds. He checks a hen's mouth, eyes, ears, vent, keel, crop, & just knows instinctively what ails the bird & prescribes an appropriate med if needed. There was only a couple times he asked for poop samples but never a stressful blood drawing.

Another vet we went to years ago I had no confidence in who never checked the bird physically & just issued a bunch of expensive blood tests on a bird so ill that blood drawing would just stress even more an already stressed/ill bird. We walked out of THAT vet's ofc! He advertised dogs/cats/birds but he was on the younger side & I had the gut feeling he was going to use my hen as a guinea pig while issuing expensive lab tests. After going to a great vet it was easy to spot another one that really had no sympathy for our dear bird.
Lucky! I caught my other 3 hens bumble early (at least I think lol.) Im so hoping that the puss is on the other side, you said see white stuff so really crossing fingers there.

I want the vet to be the last resort for her. In new jersy animal bills could be over 5k in some cases for birds, cats, dogs equines. I really would do anything for her, including giving a arm and a leg of money. But I just want to cross that bridge if I can. I have bonded so much with her, so im in real hopes she will be okay. As for the swelling, not really sure if its gone up or down. Surprisingly, she is walking without a limp, sprinting, this girl is fast!!! So I think it might be at like 2 and 1/3.

Prayers are needed for this girl and my patience lol! (Also for all the towels she pooped on)

Have you come up w/ any idea what caused more than one hen to get bumble? The best cure is prevention in the 1st place if possible. We found our one bumble hen sits on the rough edge of cement garden bed borders & on the edge of the cedar border of the sandbox. She has a padded perch so we know its not the cause of her foot issue. None of our other breeds have had bumble so since she's the only one to perch on borders during the day we figured it out.

Yes, they sit on this box wich is wood with some splinters. So not only that, but when they jump down there are small stones wich probably could have hurt them too. Were getting rid of that ans making them perches in the grass.

Todays bumble, progress? I did not get anything fromtl the bumble although, I still have a little to take off though.

Im just realizing how long this thread is... 😅

Today I was able to remove a scab and get to the puss! I was shocked, at the flesh that I could see, but also kind of happy that these past 3 months I want to say, have not been a waste!

Here are pics *the 1 pic smaller one on the top is the one I got out stilll happy!* Anyone see swelling going down?

Good job to see progress! Swelling is down but still a ways to go on that bigger wound. You are still Epsom soaking & treating/wrapping protectively each day?
