Bumblefoot?

Pics
I’ve found in my experience whenever I go digging and hit blood, it makes the bumble worse. Blood is healthy tissue, and our home environments are not sterile, so infection can get in. I’ve dealt with that stringy bumble stuff on several occasions. One did require a vet in the end for debridement and stitches. It takes so long for them to heal because they are on their feet all day. These days I use salicylic wart patches with either a corn pad or waterproof covering, then once it starts to lift, I change to magnoplasm to keep drawing it out, then medical honey as the abscess heals. Sometimes the wart patch is enough by itself. I hope your chook gets the right treatment and heals up nicely :hugs

That’s what the salicylic wart patches and magnoplasm are for.

The salicylic acid in the patches softens the skin around the bumble, and the bumble itself. It’s like fast-tracking the epsom salt baths, and it doesn’t compromise the healthy tough skin on the rest of their feet.

The magnoplasm is a drawing salve, like PRID or epsom poultice. People use it for things like splinters, to draw the splinter out. It’s incredibly effective. I dealt with a stringy bumble using magnoplasm in the past.

Thank you! That pic was yesterday, and in one day it became so swollen! We are upgrading our chicken bumble supplies. Soon we are going to be in the chicken world record book, for the longest bumblefoot case, and I am not proud of it!
Bumble home treatment can take a long time. 3 months was my longest case & keeping the hen indoors the whole time to keep the wrapping clean from outdoor dirt/mud & to make sure the wraps didn't come undone.

A bumble supply kit, fecal sample test kit from the vet, & numerous sprays & medical ointments is good to have on hand. We keep the meds refrigerated so they don't go rancid.

Yep, I do wonder how much longer this lasts... I really hope the corn cushion, bird booties, antibiotics and prayers, she can heal.

What do you think the vet will say?
Questions I should ask?

Bringing her to the vet tomorrow, should I bring sugar water for her?
So glad you can finally take the sweetie to the vet! Be sure to inform vet of how you treated her ~ foot soaks, squeezing pus, the meds/ointments you've used, etc, so he knows what you've tried already.

I'm not familiar w/Banixx since I've never used it, just triple antibiotic ointments, so ask the vet about it. The vet may offer antibiotic meds of his own or the vet might prescribe metacam which boosts a hen's energy. Follow the vet's instructions on whatever they advise cuz they will know best after seeing her.

Prayers for you all 🙏
