I have a hen with a quite swollen foot. I removed her from the others since they were trying to peck her to death and put her in a nice quiet pen to herself. The foot is still pretty swollen, but she seems to feel better. Do I lance and drain the foot? I'd hate to have to cut her open, but I do want her to get better.

I'm going throw the SAME exact thing right now and I did NOT lance or drain my roosters foot. Put her on antibiotic's, I have mine on Oxylet, right now he's been on it for 7 days and the swelling has already decreased, it looks like flabby skin on his foot. I guess that's the best way to describe it. LOL. kind of like when you lose a lot of weigh, you have all that loose skin left. that's what his bubble-foot looks like.

His bubble-foot, went from hard to very soft and is shrinking each day. not sure what I'm suppose to do about the flabby loose skin but I think he'll be OK to live with it. Mine was unable to walk, he would limp just to give you an idea of how bad his was, you can get oxylet from http://www.firststatevetsupply.com/store2/

It's only about $10.00 and you use very little but works fast a great...

Thanks for the advice! I will order some today. Been having health issues with my old run, injuries, I think they have worms too. Been eating lots and 2 died mysteriously and were really emaciated. I order some DE but going to try throwing some garlic out there tonight. Does Wormguard Plus work?

If you get the Oxylet, also get some Piperazine on that site, use that for worming them, or you can go to tractor supply and get some Iverctim, it's used for cows but you just put one to two drops under the wing and your done. Best to do at night because I know some roosters can be hard to catch. LOL

When I worm the girls, I plan on moving thier run elswhere on the property on some fresh ground. Pretty beat down after a couple years in the same run. I have another flock on fresh ground and they are so healthy and beautiful! I got rid of my rooster today too, he was getting mean and making my poor girls look shabby. Had to hire a hitman to get the job done, he jumped the coop when I tried to get him and I had to go to work.
