Hello everyone, my fiance and I recently got some chickens, and everything has been going fine. About a month ago, one of them ended up showing a bump, a little smaller than an egg, above her vent.

She stays in her nesting box for the most part, but when we let the other chickens out, she'll run around, and forage for maybe 30 minutes, and then go back.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Ok. Then if she stays in the nesting box, would it just be brooding? Any thoughts on how to keep her away/stop?

If she gets all puffed/growls at you when you reach into the nest box then she's probably broody.

To help prevent hens from going broody, make sure the aren't a lot of eggs in the nest box.

To try to stop her from brooding take away her eggs, and take her out of the nest box

thank you both for your replies. She doesn't really puff up or growl or anything. I just reach in and pick her up. I put her down outside of the box and she'll stay there on the floor while I'm there and then move back into the box after I leave. When I let the chickens out, I'll grab her and put her outside and she'll run around a little, but then she'll go back into the box. Theres no eggs in the box either.
