Hi everyone! I have a quick question concerning one of my hens feet. In between her toes she has this weird bump. It’s never seemed to bother her and she acts like all of my other hens but I just want to be safe and make sure it’s not something serious. This is what it looks like. I apologize for her dirty feet any feedback is appreciated!

Can you maybe rinse off her foot, especially the bottom, and get a clearer pic of the bottom? It’s hard to tell if there’s a scab there or not. I can’t tell if it’s just dirt or if it’s a scab that’s dusty and blurry.
Also more info would be good....
  • how long has she had the bump?
  • Does it seem to hurt her if you press on it, squeeze it, or spread her toes?
  • Have you already tried anything to help? If so, what?

I will bring her home and rinse her foot! I haven’t tried anything to help cause I don’t what it is so I don’t know what I could do. I will take her home and touch it a bit to see if it bothers her.

It looks like there’s a tiny scab on there up closer to the top of the bump. That dark spot. I was touching it and putting pressure on it and it didn’t seem to bother her at all

There looks like there is a slight swelling between her toes...but if it were me, I would not touch it, it doesnt look red and angry. I wouldnt open up anything on a chickens foot unless it was potentially life threatening.
It may literally be the way her foot is. she may have some sort of extra flesh between her toes genetically.
Keep an eye on it, if that spot between her toes gets redder and looks like its getting infected, or if she starts limping on that foot or holding that foot up, go from there.

That’s what I was thinking! Thank you so much

I agree with @KATHY goll I would not perform anything invasive on the foot, especially since it does not seem to bother her. It does look like at some point she had an injury/wound to the foot (who knows with chickens). The scales are slightly raised too, that could be s sign of the beginning of Scaly Leg Mites.

If she were mine, I would give the legs a quick wash up, then apply a triple antibiotic ointment, castor oil or Nu Stock to the leg once a week. (you can do both legs, she will probably like it:))
She does have some tiny scabs on the bottom of the foot, I would leave those alone, but monitor them. If the scabs increase in size, if the foot swells or she begins limping, then re-evaluate.
