Hi, I got some new pullet hens to add to my flock, unfortunately the 3 Barred Rock Girls aren't in the best of shape ( Im rather disappoted the Hatchery gave me these after the high quality Ive got from them before).
In their quarantine coop I noticed one has a bump on her upper eyelid that seems to have gotten bigger since yesterday when I brought her home She is also missing quite a bit of feathers on lower back above tail, but I think its not related. Is this just a cyst I should leave alone or should I be putting meds on it or lance it? What should I do???

Could it be some sort of bug bite? I have a roo with something that looks like that and he seems fine. I always just guessed it was some sort of scar tissue, I could be wrong.

Is this a well known hatchery or a private breeder? A truly professional operation wouldn't have sold such a hen.

Is the lesion soft or rock hard? If the latter, it's likely a neoplastic tumor. These can be benign or malignant. I have a hen with such a tumor over her right eye, and she's lived uneventfully with it for six years. While it's robbed that eye of its ability to function, there's no sign it's causing pain.

Whatever it is, I suggest leaving it alone and not trying to mess with it. The proximity to her eye could make intervention risky.

Is the bare spot on her back clean and clear of any discolorations or skin lesions? You would notice them, dark, freckled spots or scabby lesions. That could be from another form of cancer, squamous, and it causes feathers to fall out and sores that never heal.

@M-H-Fielding has a good guess. We've had a number of threads lately with chickens with tick bites on the eye area.
