Bumping old threads - would this help? (xenforo add-on)

People bumping old threads because they maybe found them through a search and didn't notice the last post was years ago (and often the person they're replying to hasn't been online since) seems to be quite a common issue.

Another board I post on uses this xenforo add-on. It doesn't stop people replying to old threads but it displays a warning message if the last reply to a thread was more than a certain number of days ago (we use 365 days but it's adjustable). You can also have a box that needs to be ticked acknowledging that warning before someone can post a reply.

Just wondering if this is something that might be useful here, if there was enough support from other posters and assuming it's compatible with whatever version of xenforo BYC is running on?

(Editing to add that if you click the link above there are visual examples of how it would look.)

I think there is actually going to be some updates soon. I would talk to @Nifty-Chicken about it. :)

I think we should not do anything about old threads. I use them often and know others do to.
I don't think the suggestion of the OP would "do anything" about the old threads other than notify people who are wanting to post in them that the thread hasn't been active for x amount of months/years (which means they may not get a response, especially if the OP or other commenter(s) on the thread have not been active on the site for months/years).

The old thread would bot be eliminated or even "disabled", it would simply have a pop-up before someone comments that let's them know that the thread hasn't been active for a long time. It's just a way of letting someone know that they may not get a reply, and starting a new thread could be a better option for them.

I think it's a great idea.

I don't know that I like the idea of having to check a box acknowledging that you realize the thread is old (i have so many acknowledgement buttons i have to press daily at work, most of them entirely unnecessary). But I do think some sort of visual that a thread is not current or active might be helpful to let people know they may not get answers if they ask someone a specific question. Just my two cents.

I agree! I also want to be able to reply to older threads (because why make a new one if there was previously some good discussion going) without being "reminded" that it's old. Having a visual indicator would be perfect.

Great idea, @kattabelly!
