Bumping old threads - would this help? (xenforo add-on)

One place I'd find this feature extremely useful is Buy/Sell/Trade. There are several posts there where the seller didn't mark it sold or whatnot and when I do a search for chicks, hatching eggs, etc.. several old posts will show up in the search.

Maybe it's because I haven't been here that long but I don't remember ever seeing someone "scolded" for bumping an old thread.

We remove those when we see them and they are reported more often than not. BYC maintains a standard of kindness and a welcoming attitude towards new members and those who might accidentally reply to an older thread.

This is a good point. We do rely on the seller to let us know when their offering has been sold or is otherwise no longer available, but if they neglect to do so, there is not much we can do, although I am working on options for that.

I would love just a simple pop up, " this thread xyz months old, you may not recieve an answer and some information may be outdated; please start a new thread for relevant information." Including a link to start a new thread in each section .

Quite a few old found threads I see a day involves dosages for medicines that aren't available, breeders that are gone, practices that have been found harmful and lots of myth and misinformation. The early days of this forum was pretty rough.
Many people come straight from Google out of desperation and they need new information and active help for their issue.

Just to reiterate what we've said before:

1. We'll never lock / archive old threads just because they are old (except for BST threads, which we may sometimes archive/lock)
2. We don't plan on adding a "This is an old thread" banner, but we aren't against this idea (like we are with archiving/locking old threads)

One of the forums I belong to gives you a little banner warning when you reply to an old topic. Maybe something like that would be helpful?

Same thing! I belong to another forum and it also has that little banner saying "it's an old thread"
