My PR has always had trouble growing feathers on her behind. I think it’s from poop getting matted and then feathers fall out. Today I saw bumps on her skin. She’s had them before but they usually go away. Are they just feathers growing in? Other than that she eats and drinks and walks just fine.

Can you examine closely for any moving lice or mites under her belly and vent? It looks like she is being feather picked, by others or herself. I would clean off the poop and urates, and trim any excess fluff where the poop is getting stuck. Watch how the others behave with her. They can suffer feather picking while walking around or even on the roost. Sometimes people use a product such as BluKote or pine tar to discourage pecking. A little probiotics or unsweetened plain yogurt may help with diarrhea. Are you feeding mostly chicken feed and clean water?

I haven’t noticed any lice or mites and try my best to check at night on the roost. They all are just getting back from molting. I don’t think she is being feather pecked, she would be the one pecking others feathers but she does clean her self a lot back there from the weight of the poop. I try my best to cut it off when I can. I do have Blukote. They eat all flock chicken feed and clean water everday.

Do you have crushed oyster shell available too? Just trim the extra fluff that is constantly getting soiled. If she is getting over molting, hopefully, those bare spots will fill in soon.

Yes they have oyster shell but barely pick at it. They live egg shells though so I sometimes provide them there own shells! In winter thought they don’t lay eggs so they have to use the oyster shell. I’ll sometimes mix a punch full into their food if I feel like they need to eat some.

I don’t recommend to put oyster shell in the feed, but I have it available nearby in a separate container as grit. They usually take what they need.

How does one deal with ingrown feathers? My chicken is having the same issue as OP. Can they be plucked or can we help soothe the chicken’s discomfort in any way?
Posting pictures may be helpful. If you suspect an ingrown feather cyst, you can disinfect the skin, and make a small incision or open it with a needle, and squeeze any pus out. Look for a feather inside it and remove it. You may want to start a new thread of your own for more attention.

Ingrown feathers are like ingrown hairs. They can either popped like a pimple to remove the feather(If possible), or a slight incision to remove the ingrown feather.
