So glad you're ok! I had a bad scare at our old house. DH was out of the country, and I had gone to bed for the night. We had a huge German Shepherd that always slept with me. One night I woke up to Sampson growling, and barking up a storm. I was still half awake, but knew something wasn't right. I got up walked into our living room, and saw my German Shepherd chasing a man thru my living room, thru the kitchen, and out the back door. At this point, I was awake!. I go chasing my dog out the back door, and see he had the guy stuck in the corner of our fence. He would not let the guy move, and had a hold of his arms.
My neighbor had come out at this point, and said he had called the police. I was trying to call my dog off, but he was refusing to listen. ( very unlike him) The police pulled up, and immediately my dog backed off, and came to my side. I put him in the house, and went back to talk to the poilce. They asked if my dog was hurt, and to bring him back outside. He wasn't hurt, and was wagging his tail at the police. At this point, they told me, the man had both a gun, and a knife in his pockets. Apparently, Sampson wasn't backing off because he didn't want to let go of the guys arms. Thank god for Sampson! They had asked if he was trained for police work which he wasn't. He was still a puppy at the time.
Meanwhile, the jerk ( G rated word ) was in the back seat yelling my dog had bit him, and the police told him to shut up, or he was going to ride to the police station with Sampson.
Those police officers would come and visit Sampson after that, and I was greatful they showed up everytime.
