Butchering them tomorrow!

So I forgot to take photos of the butchering process but good news is we only butchered 1 of the 2 hens we had so I can take photos next time.
The other one was a little sickly, which I didn't notice until close to butchering time, so it gets to live a bit longer to get healthy again. Luckily I have what I need to help it get better.

We were able to save the neck, liver, and heart for later. The dogs are getting the liver and heart while we will use the neck for stock or soup.
When do you think you will butcher the other one?

Did you save the feet for the soup too?
What about the the carcass?
Hopefully it is cleaned and resting in the fridge for 48-72 hours for more tender meat.

Anyway. Yes, they will still have food in their crops if you don't withhold feed for several hours before butchering. 12 hours is recommended. Honestly though, I find it easier to locate and remove full crops, so I don't bother taking the feed away before butchering.
Ditto Dat^^^
I crate at night with only water available so intestines empty overnight, then they get a tablespoon of scratch 15 minutes before they go into the cone which makes the crop easier to find and remove.

I make a batch of chicken feet and sort of accidentally overdid it with the chili-garlic sauce. They were fiery hot but so delicious, we were sweating from the heat but we ate every one of them.
I would love your recipe! I do save the feet from butchering, but besides feeding it to the dogs haven't ever used them before, lol

I'll see if I can find it. It was a three times cooked thing and I don't see it on the internet now. Hopefully it's in the bowels of my hard drive.

Unfortunately the feet were too dirty and we weren't able to clean them off so we tossed them. We're hoping the other hen's feet will be better.
The carcass will be used for stock after we've used the meat.
Cleaned and in the freezer! :D
