Butler Bobwhite

Quote:
I raise Butler bobs, got mine from JJ. Yes they are big birds. They will hit normal northern bob size in 10-12 weeks or so... 20oz to 30oz at a year old is not uncommon if you get good stock. Not every bird will be this big from anyone's stock... I bought eggs from 4 breeders to get the biggest birds... That was a year ago and I now have breeders from JJ. Most of mine are over 18 oz now. They have lots of tude at this size. Some bite for fun... Butlers are not a quick for the table bird, but they second to none on the table.... Bill

Edit To Add: There is nuthin more impressive that a pen full of huge Bobs... It rare to find some one not "into" quail, that's ever heard of a butler bob. Those folks always leave my pens shake'n their head with there mouth open...

Find me some 20 oz Butlers ..I will pay you a finders fee

Not interested in your finders fee or your BS. I was very clear where I got my stock... The man asked a question, I answered him... I can put up pix, but ya can't ever really trust them can ya Alex. Could end up post'n a 1 lb 20 oz quail...

I corrected that before that it was 1 pound .20 ounces and we joked around about it. You can post a photo. No worries about it, I know my stock well and others do as well.

ETA: The reason I was laughing is that my Jumbo Coturnix are bigger than the butlers I have raised. I am thinking I have not received the good stock and will just look for a good breeder that can help me on that IF I plan to breed butler bobwhites. I personally like my Coturnix. If you have the big birds just put them on a scale and show them off a little. No need to call names because all I did was giggle a little bit, just like you do to my remarks. Let's just keep it civil.

If your not just wanting to stir up trouble, and want 20 oz Butlers, they are real and not uncommon. Like I said, not every bird will reach this size. I hatched just shy of 80 birds and kept the biggest 10 as breeders. Im by no means the only one that has 20oz butlers. Wilds of PA sells "slate belt monsters" that are even bigger. I dont sell birds or eggs, never have. That be'n said, anything I tell you is not profit motivated. Dont have anything to gain by exaggerating because I will not sell anything. I will tell you, you will never get truly large birds with black lights, meal worms or finch seed. There is no mystery here. Hatch alot of good stock feed them good GBS and keep the biggest ones. Then breed them to each other.... Good luck, Bill

Thanks, doubt its the feed. 30% GBS with finch seeds and oyster...what all the birds get and the jumbos grow to the potential...just need better stock.

Gamebird starter is great but birds need more of a variance at times. I have talked to many old timer breeders with huge birds and they don't feed corn but rather a good GBS and finch seeds. The oyster shells are for the added calcium. GBS is lacking big time. Black light DOES help in vision with added full spectrum lighting. Meal worms are good for added protein. In the wild what would the birds have. Definitely not GBS. What if GBS wasn't available? A combination of diet and lighting does bring in healthy big birds. I agree about keeping the biggest ones, cull the small ones, and breed on. Now everyone will have a different point of view on how they breed their birds but all this info I am presenting is from journals and what have been studied. I have proof with my stock that this works with getting large birds and many people can back me up on this. I know of other breeders that breed their birds this way and the birds are big.

There's a lot of talk here about people wanting to buy 20oz plus butlers, but nobody will talk actual money. Since you guys don't believe they exist, they should be worth big money. Here's what I'll do for ya. I will send a trio of 20oz birds to anyone who wants them for 100 bucks a piece, plus 50 bucks for shipping. When the birds arrive at your post office, you must weigh them right there, with the postal clerk as your witness. If the birds don't make weight, and the postal clerk signs off on it that they are under weight, I will send an entire refund of your money, and you can keep the birds. If they do make weight, you will send me an extra 100 bucks for wastin' my time. Everything will be done through Paypal, so everyone's money will be protected. Who's wants to be first?

I don't think posting a photo of your breeder on a scale is wasting time, if you are a legit breeder showing your stock. No photos have been posted yet here. This is a place for us to learn afterall and drool on beautiful photos to represent our passion.
