Butler Bobwhite

Ok, I aint got a sole I care to impress. Dont care if you believe me or not. But see'n as you called me out, I went out and stressed my birds and grabbed the 1st one I could catch. A hen that is middle of the pack. she is freaked out and bounce'n off the walls. I wont do this to any more to convince anyone. Like I say, what you think means nothing to me... BTW, I was wrong. this one happened to miss 20 OZ by .1 oz....

the cage and scale I use......

Whether or not size matters ( an age old debate!

) - I'd like to learn more about Bobwhites and colors! Each pic I see gets me more interested in these boogers.

Fat Daddy - that is one pretty bird! Is that standard color for those? ...for Butlers I mean... Have you other pics which show colors/patterns?

Yes this is normal for my breeder hens. They are a striking bird in the sun. I like the buff hen color better than the roos really. She is so ruffled from the handle'n that she's a mess. I'll see if I can get some good pix of the rest... I have a ceder "brush pile" in the center of that big pen you can see in the first pic. They disappear into that when they think something is up. Makes them hard to catch and sometimes hard to see..... They dont trust me at all now, but they really never have. Bobs just aint a run up to greet ya kinda bird.....Or mine aint anyway....

Edit to Add: Here is a pic taken back in sept. when I was post'n a how to install " Anti-peck Bits" tutorial... Im just over 6' and just under 300lb, I dont have small hands. This bird was big then and was hatched 4-9-11...

BTW, I forgot to add. I got my Butlers from JJ, I said this before. I also know for a fact that Jim, "Millibantam" and Alex also got theirs from the same source. There is nuthing wrong with the stock. You just cant raise them on disco lights, meal worms and finch seeds.... Good Ol Purina Game Bird Starter and good stock is all thats needed....

Good work there Bill.

You say you raised 80 and picked out 5 biggons? I only hatched out 7 and have 5 left from that, two pairs and a boy. So I just don't have enough to say about the birds really. I just didn't get enough to work with. I am just not happy with this stock. Maybe if I got more I would be happier.

I know for a fact GBS alone will not grow out these birds alone. But I respect you for posting and you shall respect my beliefs as well as you know I have big birds in other species.. Thank you for posting.

ETA: I am going to weigh the birds and see what they weigh for curiosity! I never weighed them. My answer may change after I weigh

Thanks, But like I say, I dont sell anything, Dont consider or call myself a "breeder"... I am a bird man thou!! Hatch raise and eat 100's of birds. I have given a lot of eggs away too.

I bought eggs from 4 people when I got into the butlers. One was from Oregon, small birds. One was outta Tennessee, again side by side they just didnt measure up. JJ's were the big birds and good hatch rate. A guy from texas had birds that were in the same ball park as JJ's. Lesser, but close. Also a good hatch rate. But I had issues with get'n all the eggs I bought from him.... May have been a isolated deal but why take the chance, I know JJ and hes got big birds...

If I can help you, it looks like we are fairly close, Give a holler... Bill
