So, how do buttercup combs work? What makes them? Is it duplex somehow combined with single? My poultry genetics books say very little on it, and I cant find much on google. I am also doing my own breeding "experiment" with them. I crossed a buttercup with a Marans, and got a regular single comb. I plan on backcrossing it to buttercups and seeing what I get. Thanks!

Here's a few sources I turned up:

Duplex comb in the chicken: a multi-allelic trait

by R G Somes Jr 1
(Breeding experiments, written up in 1991, involving V-comb and Buttercup comb.)

https://www.researchgate.net/public...c_Chicken_Comb_and_Two_Duplex-comb_Phenotypes

A quote: "Here we show that the two Duplex-comb alleles, V-shaped (D*V) and Buttercup (D*C), are both associated with a 20 Kb tandem duplication..."

(Someone was looking at the actual details of the DNA involved in V and Buttercup combs.)

(Explanation from someone a few years ago in a different thread.)
