I'm glad you plan to do your research before getting them. I feel so bad for the poor quail who end up with people who think they are miniature chickens and then wonder why they're dying.

I’m a big researcher! I read the chicken health handbook and raising chickens for dummies cover to cover (along with a bunch of other books) before I ever even got chickens.

May I suggest getting a set of flush cutters and getting rid of the ends of the zip ties? I work in equipment cabinets and can't tell you how many times I've reached into a bundle of cables and pulled back a bleeding arm or hand. Those things are sharp and can really draw blood quickly.
