Button quail - all wire cage ?

Is an all wire cage ok for buttons ?
I'm looking for something easier to clean with less chances of wild button boinking

Seems like a slide out tray system would be much cleaner.
If it's ok then what flooring wire size is most suited to them ?

Letting them walk on wire is bad for their feet and cruel to any animal. I had sand in the cage and it was easy to clean and didn´t need to clean that often.

I assume you're meaning indoor use and yes that's fine as long as the wire they walk on is very small so their feet dont fall through. Frieza what you said is insulting...you may say that you don't agree with wire cages but calling it cruel and bad for their feet is you being misinformed.

ALL my birds (quail) are on wire, never once experienced bumblefoot or any other toe issues...other than when they get scared sometimes they may tear a toenail but that's with any type of flooring that can cause that.

eta: i wil say though that button quails aren't major poopers and their little doo doos are so small that you dont really NEED to put them on wire, but if you feel that that will make life easier for you then yes its perfectly fine. I've raised several buttons on wire, as do others, it keeps them from getting poo balled up on their toes (which can dry and cause major walking issues), keeps them from getting illnesses that can be caused by eating and walking around in poo, as well as they aren't as close to their ammonia making doodies which means better respiratory systems

And omits the need for bedding except for in a house or rest area that are good to put in the pen for them to get up off the wire

Well atleast in my country it´s illegal with wirefloors and i don´t belive it´s good for the quails to have to walk on wire.
I would say that if you really care about your birds you let them walk on a real ground where the whole foot take the pressure.

I thought it wasn't good for Button Quail to be on the ground?
Something to do with them having a higher chance of getting worms????
Am I mistaken????
Anyway around my parts they could not stay out the winter as it would be too cold.

Everyone I know uses wire floors...don't see the issue...I had some button quail that I had indoors in a large aquarium and no matter how much i cleaned they seemed to get the poo stuck to there toes and I constantly had to wash their feet to keep them from getting their toes incased in it. I did use recycled cobb for bedding, maybe that was a poor choice.

If I were to do it again, I'd go with wire!

My button is on the smallest wire I could find...I think a quarter inch. I put some rubber shelf liner on a section, as well as a small box with bedding. It makes it a lot easier to clean and the toes aren't getting as 'poopy'. As long as they have a rest area, and a choice to not be on wire, I think it's okay.

If you use sand you shouldn´t get any problem with things getting stuck on their feet. My quails in the outdoor cage got no problem with their feet and no problems with the young quails that walk on newspaper or towels too.

quails that walk on newspaper when ive used it get poop all over them I think its' a messy idea but i deffinatly wouldnt call a person using it cruel.

Also, you mention ground, well sand isnt natural ground for a button quail....

I didn´t said the ground need to be natural.
I just said it should be flat so all the foot get pressure and not few spots like on wire.
Sand is alot more natural than wire if you want to look at it that way.
In my outside cage they got grass growing in where they make tunnels and are able to make good nests and hide if they want to.
