If you decide to get different blood, I know someone in Houma. Great guy and really dedicated to his birds. If you want eggs, Garrie Landry is also in LA.

Thanks! Im thinking anything i get here in LA would be lretty closely related. I know a couple of people and im pretty sure everyone birds come from Mr Landry. Do you know another person whos imported them?

I moved the buttons to a warmer room where they'll get 12 hours of light in hopes of improving future nesting sucess.

Grover has gotten super friendly and greets me at the cage door. He let me pet him today for a few seconds.

That sounds great, do you have english whites? Still doing research on the cot's needs as pets. I would enjoy raising a brood and keeping two tame/socialized hens as pets, give away any cocks.

I want to get an incubator when I get paid, any recommendations for affordable but not outright crap models?
yes the janoelle 12 is a great inexpensive incubator for the occasional small-scale hatcher. it is sold under several brand names on amazon and usually around the $75 price point or less. only other necessary items would be separate thermometers/hygrometer. It holds 2 dozen cot eggs comfortably. all the components can be placed inside for easy storage (i even put in my candler and “dedicated” sharpie)

As far as I know, no one can import any more. I think back in the day Jodi McDonald/Brackenridge Ranch in CA imported birds as well, but they are out of breeding birds. I'm sure their bloodlines are around somewhere though.

The guy in Houma has bloodlines from out of LA as well as from Mr. Landry. If you want eggs, I know an awesome couple in OH and a lady in upstate NY.

I have two bloodlines from MD, and I bought eggs from the couple in OH to give me 3 lines. I'm thinking about getting eggs from out west or up north next time to increase the likelihood of fresh genes.

That's the problem with buttons, most people aren't NPIP. I've been on the waiting list to be tested for at least 6 months now. I know the OH couple is waiting as well. Hopefully the PT antigen will be available soon, but I'm thinking it will be spring. I took the class to become a tester, but I can't be certified without the antigen. It's a hot mess.

New behavior I've been observing: the male fluffs up enormously like a turkey and charges around. He isn't specifically chasing the female, but she scurries to a hiding place and chatters loudly. The male runs back and forth a few times with his plumage super fluffed, then he slowly drops his feathers again and goes back to what he was doing, and the hen comes back out and they just go back to normal. He doesn't seem to be responding to any threat. He does it once or twice a day, it last about ten or twenty seconds. Anyone else's do that?
