My baby buttons are 12 days old and we have two boys and one girl. I suspected so a few days ago due to behavioral differences and one having grown bigger early on. New white bib feathers confirm that little Bean and Popcorn are males. Cricket the big one is a girl. She has a dark throat.

mine are 2 weeks today and i still have no idea on gender....maybe 1 looks like it’s getting white bib feathers?? i will have to try to get better pics

Babies have graduated to a more adult cage set up with dust bath, things to climb and run under, food dish and water bottle. They are also getting mealworms, seeds, greens and boiled egg now plus game bird crumble.

Bean is big into climbing.

I've read through as many websites adorned with garish 2009 website design as I can possibly find, but I am still left with some confusion on button/Chinese painted/king quail colours (or whatever it is you want to call these cute buggers.) Any input?

Bucky—red breasted, or just wild type? What is the difference between the two? I can't see one. Is this the color people refer to when they say "Darth Vader"? (Yes, I have changed his water today. For some reason, this pair soils their water terribly in minutes. Like, really, dudes. Just go around it. You have plenty of room.)

Simmons—red breasted? She's pretty bald right now, the male in with her (Carter) is kind of a jerk. He's going to lose lady privileges if he can't be nice.

Carter—cinnamon blue face? I haven't found an exact match for him anywhere. Is he just a mix?

Shuri—wild type. She's setting on six eggs right now and based off what they look like I suspect they will hatch in the next few days.

Carter is a grey cinnamon blue face. Grey cinnamons are uncommon. I have a breeding group of them, and they do breed true.

For Carol, can you get a better picture of her back? She may be a cinnamon, but the lighting is hard on my old eyes

Sure, I'll pull out my camera and try to get her to sit still a while.

She's definitely wild type, I'm just not sure if she's a light normal or a dark cinnamon. In this picture she looks cinnamon. Is she paired with a cinnamon? If so, and the babies are all cinnamon, that's what she is. If some of the babies are normal, she's a normal.

I'm really bad at getting natural pictures of buttons. That's why I'm holding them in most of the pictures you see me post

She looks a lot like that cinnamon pearl someone else posted. Is that a possibility? She's in with the cinnamon blue face male.

All of my chicks now have red vent feathers even Cricket, who doesn't have a bib yet. So its actually three boys.

Will I be able to keep them all together as they grow?
