Button eggs are hard to candle. A lot of mine have really dark, thick shells that I just can't see anything through.

One egg that I could see through had something loose floating through it, so I'm guessing that one's a goner.

Yeah my Annie's eggs are impossible to see into. So I have no idea about fertility, and since i've hatched under finches my hatches take way longer than they should. "Peep" above hatched over a week late, so I was afraid to remove any of the other eggs but recently did. They were dead in shell - I guess from the golden pearl lethal factor.

I have enough buttons now, so no more hatching for me, at least from this pair. I still want white ones.

I'm after white ones too.

Funny yall say that --i discovered just the other day the white thing that hatched in my last clutch of the year is a laying hen

My husband thinks im kinda dumb but im pretty excited. He said 'why go to all the trouble of getting the colors if ur so happy with a solid white bird?'

Otherwise i had a pretty bad run of luck with the buttons last month. The first hard freeze and they were too young apparently :hit they went thru two light ones no worse for wear and this one only lasted about 12 hours but i lost 4 of the 5 young birds. Then my silver hen came up egg bound and passed. So now all i have are the white hen and her father.

Sorry for your losses. They're tropical, would not put them out at all. Mine get fluffed up and look uncomfortable at anything much below 70 degrees.
