Button Quail Chick colors

I tried the cheapest incubator, the yellow mini dome which I got for a bit less than $20. It didn't hatch any button quail eggs, only coturnix.

I had a lot better luck with the Hovabator 1602N from Strombergs. The mini dome came from there as well.
Thank you! I’m not going to be spending a lot because I won’t be regularly incubating anything..so I am just going to have to hope for the best! We had a neighbor(I’m so mad I lost contact) that had bought day old button chicks like 2yrs ago and that’s what sparked this venture..we remembered how fun it was! She only lost 3 total-but that was throughout the course of 3wks after shipping! I wish someone would just let me pay to have them shipped and accept the risks! I feel like if shipped from a surrounding state, next day and packed right(like her’s were!) everything would be fine!

are you aware of the proper care for buttonquail? Most people aren't, and their birds quickly die...

You’re welcome! Did you mean you want to get eggs shipped or chicks? I’m assuming eggs since quail especially buttons wouldn’t do well shipped even after next day shipping. Their yolk to chick ratio is smaller than chicken chicks. I’m excited to have baby buttons one day too!

I hope I am? Our neighbor had them and that’s what made us want them! I’ve read up on everything and am planning an aquarium set up, with lots of hidey places, a dust bath etc once they’re out of the brooder! Any tips/advice you wish to impart on me will be gladly digested!!

Great! My biggest tip to anyone is... Don't keep more than a pair per cage! Though some sources might say you can, it is absolutely stressful and unnatural for them!

Our neighbor had gotten her chicks via the mail! But I’m finding that she was a lucky one who found someone willing to attempt to ship the chicks and was very successful! I just spend too much time in backyard chickens reading and am thoroughly terrified of incubating eggs..but to get the chicks looks like I must. Now I’m onto finding a non expensive effective incubator to buy to get it set up before ordering the eggs!
