Button Quail color chart and Identification.

All I can tell you for sure is that they do fine in my winter temperatures which go down to the low 40's and occasionally the 30's. I've had buttons for a little over two years now and I haven't lost a single one and we get a light dusting of snow a couple of times through the winter.

I keep mine out in the aviary and they do have an indoor area to go into, but most times, even when it's cold, they prefer to huddle up outside unless it's raining. They do lay most of their eggs inside though.

I've been talking to Garrie at ZebraFinch.com and he's been incredibly helpful in helping me identify my buttons. Some I thought were female are actually male. They don't have the white bib and I thought all the males had that so assumed they were female.

I have a lot to learn. But of the ones he's identified for me, I think I will start a color identification chart from them and go from there.

I don't have any pieds, splashes or pearls though, so if any of you have them and don't mind sharing photos for the chart please let me know. I'm looking for nice detailed close up shots for the chart.

Thanks,

Deb

Hi,

I've been looking for a good button quail color chart with photos and a good detailed description so that I can determine the correct colors of what I have. I've had button quail in my aviaries for about two years now but only recently have been getting more into breeding and raising them.

My problem is in trying to ID the color variations accurately. I did find a a couple of charts, but many of them are still hard to ID as they look so much alike. An accurate detailed description along with the photo would be great.

I was thinking, since I can't find what I'm looking for, maybe I'll make make my own. However, first I need to be able to identify the colors accurately, and obviously, I'm not going to have all the colors that are available.

So here's what I was hoping. If any of you raise button quail and are experts at color ID, would you be willing to send me pictures and detailed descriptions of what you have? I will create a detailed color chart and when complete I will post a link to it here so everyone can benefit from it.

I would be forever grateful for help in identifying my button colors and would more than happy to share what I learn.

Thanks,

Deb
