Chicken Girl

Glad to know that no one knows this question...at first I was excited to tell everyone that I had one hatch so far and here I had a whole 3 people which none of answered my questions...This is starting to frustrate me as I must go to bed soon not knowing weather or not to leave it be or take it out.

I love BYC in all and don't want to be banned but I'm in a pickle and no one has helped me in over 3 hours...and it's an emergency...

Well I'll just prey he make's it through the night...

Thanks I guess.

I've never hatched buttons before but I've hatched coturnix and bobwhites and they were both ok to be in the incubator for a long time so I'm sure your button will be fine over night. Don't worry about it. I'm sorry no one has responded and I hope this helps.

Uh I dont know I have never hatched anything from what I have read youre sapose to leave them in for about 24 hours while they dry off and others hatch.

Yeah, you're supposed to leave them in at least until they dry off. I also believe that 24 hours is fine.

Leave the baby in until he's all dry and fluffy, then put him in the brooder with a small stuffed animal. If you don't have an animal, you can take an old washcloth, roll it up, fold it in half and rubber-band it to make a little donut. We had one hatch 48 hours before any of the others, and he just loved sleeping under the lamp in his little donut. Once the others came, he was happy. But, Buttons are tiny, and will dehydrate rapidly. They need to have food and water no later than 24 hours, or they will weaken. The sooner the better. They're not like chickens where they take 3 days to absorb the yolk... quail will eat and drink on their own right away.
Congratulations on your baby... I do hope another one hatches, though, so he won't be lonely. Do you have more eggs coming?

This is why you should try to do research before doing anything. Yes, things happen, and there isn't always someone here to answer. I'm not trying to be rude, but it's a live and learn type of thing, you can't be mad at other people because they're not "on-call" when you need them. You can also do a search if you need emergency answers and nobody is on. I'm glad everything is working out. For the future, yes, they can stay in the incubator for awhile. None of mine were removed until 24 hours after the original expected hatch. Two or three had hatched out hours before the due date/time, so they were left in for closer to 36 hours and were just fine (minus the one that had a problem). The sole survivor (after the cat attack) is doing quite well, despite being put in with 8 buttons that were two weeks older and two monster chicken chicks. Mixing ages is risky, at first they were doing a lot of toe picking on the little guy, but soon stopped and they're now fine. If my single curly button hatches, I'm going to pull the little week old baby (I think it's about a week old now) and put him with the newest baby.
Keep us updated with them...
