I bought a 5 square foot cage. It is about 2 feet high so should I put bird netting near the top just in case they do that thing where they fly straight up? Also, can they have alfalfa hay? I wanted to put some sort of hay in there for the female to make a little nest and I have alfalfa hay already.

Alfalfa hay is great to use! High protein if they ingest it

Is 2 feet short enough that they won't kill themselves if they fly up and hit the top of the cage or should I put a layer of bird netting near the top?

Yay! All I have to do now is find someone who sells GBS. It has been surprisingly hard but I have a few places to call. I just cant believe tractor supply doesn't have it. I go there for everything!

I personally like Purina Mills. It's 30% protein, and my birds love it. Be careful where you buy it make sure its fresh.

The purina startena works. For breeders I add in finch seeds and thistle seeds along with oyster shells along with it.

I already have thistle for my backyard finch feeder and oyster shells for my chickens so I guess they'll have to share! I called my local southern states and they have GBS so thanks for the help everyone! I will be going to get the supplies I need on friday and i'm getting a pair of buttons on saturday
