I got those first 9 in the brooder and already taught 3 of them how to drink and where the food is.

I ground the feed in a mortar and pestle for them. And put pebbles in the water bowls.

One of them is stuck to its shell by a thin, yellow, stringy thing. Maybe some membrane or its umbilical; I don't know.

It's the umbilical. I would leave it alone for a few hours and then, if it doesn't break on it's own, break it, but make sure that you're not pulling on the chick at all when you do it.

I would leave some of the food scattered on the paper towels. That will help them learn to eat.

I'm so surprised, because it's not quite day 16 for them yet. Not for another 9.5 hours.
