hi GoldenPheasant, good question!..i asked it also(on another post)..and they sorta said that they are really to small to eat. ..but i thought that i saw somewhere that PC finally tried one of his..(i think)......so, good question. maybe someone on here can answer that better for ya...good luck, Wendy:)

Think chipmunk... How much meat is on a chipmunk?

There's no meat really on a button quail. You CAN eat them, but why?

ofcourse you could eat them, but why

. I culled 10 coturnix quails (which are meat quails) a few weeks back, I had 5, my husband had five.....they didn't even so much as fill us up. Very tastey, but if a coturnix quail who almost is a lb in weight- if 5 of them can't satisfy a normal eating person, just think how many button quails it would take to make it worth it! LOL!

It's not a mean question at all however, but honestly I would never eat mine...if one dies i'd probably offer it to my cats to eat though.

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain :

Truthfully, for the Buttons I use one of my Miss Prissy Chick-o-bators.

I have paper fibre cartons that hold 50 eggs, and I just elevate one end of the carton, then elevate the other end, 3 times a day instead of a turner.

But you can use any incubator.
The temps and humidity are the same as chickens (forced air or still air), but they only take 16 days to incubate (stop turning on day 14).
You can get them online, at your local feed store, usually (we don't have a TSC here), or even on Craigslist in your area. I think for my first hatch I used an LG still air, and hand-turned.

Where do you get the quail egg cartons?

I bought them off Ebay... but I think eggcartons.com has them, too.

Not really loud all the time. The males can be rather "insistent" sometimes, with their crowing, but they're so tiny that it's not obnoxious. Otherwise, they are either quiet, or softly talking to each other.

They can be a bit flighty until they get to know the routine. My younger birds have a tendency to freak out a little, but the older birds take everything in stride. Weird thing tonight, though... the light bulb in the room that I keep them in burned out, so I tried to replace it with a red heat lamp. They all went berserk! I had to switch it back to a white light for them to calm down. Don't know what was up with that!

Hmm. That's interesting. I do know that red often signifies danger to many mamals. Blood. That's partly why we use red for stop lights and signs. A psychological "red flag."

Maybe it looked like the red eye of a giant predator. Or a gaping mouth.
